My Leadership Style

Throughout the years of my youth I have had a lot of experiences that helped build my leadership skills. One of the main events that I took from was my Eagle Scout Project. The project was built around benefitting the community that I lived in. The types of leadership I used consisted of team building, day-by-day project organization, on site project execution, project payroll, and overall project management. These leadership skills were special to my specific project but could be utilized for future projects in my academic and career path.
During my pursuit to figure out my specific leadership style I decided to sit in during Sir Rudy Giuliani’s presentation. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani covered several aspects of being a leader. These aspects being; setting strong goals, be an optimist, courage to take risks, relentlessly prepare, have a good team, and have solid communication. He discussed the importance of these aspects in comparison to his term as NYC Mayor and his leadership during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I really enjoyed hearing from Rudy Giuliani and plan on utilizing the knowledge he shared for my future as a leader.

Based off my personal experiences and recent sit-ins with leadership professionals I have formulated my own leadership style and expertise. I believe that I am a strong leader when it comes to influencing and organizing a group of people. I first learned I held this skill when I motivated a group of individuals that I organized to help complete my Eagle Scout Project. The core motivation I used influenced the group to work efficiently cutting down the time that was needed to complete the project. I still use this style of leadership today and have come to enjoy the results it produces.

My Strengths and Reflections on StrengthFinder 2.0

StrengthFinder 2.0 has helped me analyze myself and discover what my top strengths are. The survey aided me in finding out that I had certain strengths that I wasn't even aware of. Now I have a solid idea of what I am really capable of and how I should approach certain situations.

The top strengths I received were: Futuristic, Competition, Focus, Individualization, and Analytical. I agree with each of these strengths as I can relate to all of them. As a Futuristic individual I always look towards the future and the things I can accomplish. As a competitive individual I have always had a competitive personality whether it was related to sports or a specific job or academic situation. As a Focus oriented individual I stay on track and achieve my goals. As an Individualized person I enjoy figuring out how people who are different can work together. And lastly as an Analytical individual I like to think about all the factors in a situation.

I was very satisfied with my results after taking the StrengthFinder 2.0 Survey. I see these results aiding me a lot in my future.

Career Future

As a former student at the Thompson School of Applied Science (TSAS) I have already clinched an associates degree in my first two years here at UNH. Graduating from the Applied Business Management program at the Thompson School helped prep me for the business world. I gained knowledge from insightful professors and was required to take courses that would set me up in a variety of different start up positions in the business world.

Currently I am a junior enrolled in the communications program in the College of Liberal Arts (COLA) here at UNH. The transition from graduating from the Thompson School last year to enrolling in the Communications program this academic year went very smoothly. The transfer from the TSAS to COLA did put me behind credit wise and I'll be making that up with a couple summer courses and possibly a J-Term.
I plan on graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Communications in spring 2015 and pursuing a career in the Public Relations or Media industry. I plan on networking with relatives, brothers in my Fraternity, current and distant friends and utilizing sites like LinkedIn and Wildcat Careers to help promote my personal achievements and self-image.
